I am using an Acer Aspire V5-471 as my workstation for playing tracks. (I spin at clubs regularly. Follow my twitter: [sorry can't advertise]) This laptop is a hand-me-down from my uncle who has not connected the laptop to an access point for a while. Here's the issue:

After 5 minutes of happy and smooth surfing, my WiFi connection goes 'Limited'.
Sometimes it occurs when I am going to access a site or clicking links.
I already reinstalled the drivers but I have read a thread that said that it is an issue on Windows 8 so I'd have to download 8.1 at the store. The problem is, The Windows store cancels the download if it detects that you don't have an Internet connection.

So what should I do?
Is there a fix for this?
Is there a manual way of updating to W8.1 or atleast 10?

Really need help. Thanks!

JUST FOUND OUT: My model doesn't really support 10.
I'm doomed

Can I keep my files intact if I used a Windows 8.1 disc instead?
