Dead laptop - will not power on

I recently purchased a Dell 15-5558 laptop and for some reason I cannot get it to turn on - laptop is only a few months old and was barely used - the power supply has a light right at the computer and it lights up but when I press the power button absolutely nothing happens- no lights or sounds - I am suspicious it is either the power jack or the power button. Does anyone have any idea on how to diagnose those items without buying new parts just for trial? Or is there something I am overlooking? I have the computer taken apart and nothing looks out of the ordinary...
any help is appreciated!

If you only purchased it a few months ago, it should still be under warranty and you should contact the manufacturer to have them repair or replace it. Doing any work on it (hardware wise) on your own would void your warranty. Unless it is out of warranty, then you are free to do the work yourself.
