I'm looking at getting my mom an upgrade from her old laptop. Seriously, this thing is ancient. (She really only plays farmville, and it runs at like 15 fps) Everyone in my family has these super fast laptops and i have my own $2000 desktop, but she is still stuck with this garbage. So what should i look into for her as a brand new laptop that is pretty fast and can actually run farmville (cant believe i just said that) at normal browser flash game fps, and can also do her everyday work also at a fast speed without breaking the bank? Currently i have around a $500 max budget for her

From a low budget perspective you can buy the 15.6" Asus F555LA-AB31 for $370 which comes with a Core i3-5010u CPU that has the Intel HD 5500 integrated GPU, 4GB of RAM and a 1080p screen. It should be good enough to play Farmville.

Moving on up on the price, but still within your budget is the 15.6" HP 15-ay011nr. It has a current generation Core i5-6200u with the Intel HD 520 integrated GPU, 8GB of RAM and a 1080p screen. There are actually two prices for the laptop; $440 with the 128GB SSD and $460 with the 1TB HDD. The HDD is slower but offers more...

At $550 (same price as the laptop mentioned by hang-the-9 is the Acer Aspire E5-575G-53VG. It has a Core i5-6200u with the Intel HD 520 integrated GPU, 8GB of RAM, 1080p screen, 256GB SSD and a nVidia 940mx dedicated GPU. I am pretty sure the 940mx is overkill for Farmville.

Sadly, there used to be an Acer laptop with a Core i5-5200u CPU, 1TB HDD, 4GB of RAM. 1080p screen and nVidia 940m priced at $500 for close to if not over 1 year, but that is no longer the case.
