I had an older dell monitor lying around and I got a male DVI to female HDMI converter so i could cast my chrome cast to the screen. it worked perfectly except for the lack of sound... The monitor has no 3.5mm jack input but does have a vga port, dvi port (I'm using it for the chrome cast) a printer cable looking plugin and a bunch of usb hubs. Any ideas of banging some sound out of the sucker???

Solution
Does it actually have built in speakers? What is the monitor model?

Monitors with speakers typically use HDMI or DisplayPort for sound, but if it has no HDMI/DP input and no audio jacks...

Neither VGA nor DVI can carry an audio signal, nor can HDMI converted to DVI.

Chromecast device is designed for an HDMI-equipped TV (which obviously has speakers), not a PC monitor.
However, it should also work with a monitor which has an HDMI port and built-in speakers, but if monitor has no HDMI port you won't get audio, it's no good using HDMI-to-DVI converter cable as that will only give you video.
