So I used to be a console gamer and therefore bought Astro A40's, but now that I've come to pc and seen the variety, I don't know if I regreat buying this headset to a point where I should sell them. So for gaming alone, are the A40's worth keeping? I know someone would opt for the typical Audio Technica ATH-M50' or something along those lines, but are those good for hearing footsteps in a game apart from audio monitoring?

Solution
Only you can answer that question: what are your requirements?

If your current headsets cannot "hear footsteps" then they no longer meet your requirements.

That said, all you can truly do is to try other headsets and see if they can truly meet your requirements; e.g., "hearing footsteps".

So do not look at it as a "mistake". You made a decision, things changed. Adjust and go forward as you wish and as meets your requirements.
