3 tb HD ext does not play on tv

Are you trying to connect an IDS or SATA drive to the USB port on your TV? Then you need something like this
https://www.amazon.com/Drive-Adapter-Converter-Optical-External/dp/B002OV1VJW
or this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817707199&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC-_-pla-_-External+Enclosure-_-N82E16817707199&gclid=CJyq9NHTgs8CFcokhgodqFwDjw&gclsrc=aw.ds
If it is a USB drive and the files are not recognized by the TV your options are limited. Make sure that the drive is formatted to be compatible with the TV. Check that the TV firmware is up to date as they may have added support for your files. Otherwise you would need to reformat the drive and or convert the files to compatible ones.

My original 2tb hard drive that connected via USB into back of TV broke

Bought a new external 3tb hard drive that would do same (stand along power plug and USB connection) however the TV does not reconise the connection.

Video files are same as original that played on TV

After a bit googling believe that the issue is, TV will not read a 3tb.

The two options I found were
1: Partition the 3tb into 2tb, then the TV can read it.. however would prefer not to do this.. as loosing 1tb of storage.
2: Connect HD to laptop then laptop through to TV.- again a lot of wires and over and back to laptop..

I am wondering if there is a third option?

Ideally to connect 3Tb hd to intermediate device that can read a three 3tb and put that on TV then can (less wires and one remote for tv/movies)
