E15 fine on Ac power but freezes on battery

Acer E 15 Start ES1-512-C5YW Upgraded to Windows

Watching Avi files that are stored locally on hard disk - If the Ac power cord is plugged in, all is fine, but if power cord is removed and just running on battery power, within minutes, the laptop locks up completely and makes a buzzing noise, no option but to hard reset.

Simple solution would be to leave power cord plugged in I know, but I like to keep my battery conditioned by not leaving it plugged in all the time.

If it had a removable battery, I'd remove the battery and use power cord, but it's not got removable battery.

Any ideas please?

Does this only happen when watching the AVIs? or no? If it doesn't, then there is something going on with the battery/system and it needs to be checked.

However, if this only happens with those files, which would not shock me, then it may be that they are draining power much faster than they should, and/or they were badly recorded files. Both of these can cause the problems you are having. Not to mention that AVI files are usually huge and are more of a pain to run. Even on a desktop.

You might want to consider a program like "Format Factory" through which you can convert the AVI files to other formats. Doing so may help you with your problems.

Thanks for your reply, It does only happen when watching video files, whether Avi, Mp4, Mkv etc etc.
The laptop is only just over a year old, and the battery has been very looked after, ie no constant charging or overcharging, overheating etc. As a rule the battery will last well over 4-5 hours under usual usage.

When playing a video file, if on battery, sometimes it will not freeze for 10 minutes or so, and during that time, the battery meter does not really go down that much so I ruled out battery drain?

It isn't surprising. The problem may well be that even though the battery still works, it doesn't put out enough power for what you are doing. It happens. Way more often than you would think actually.

The only way to fix that is obviously to replace the battery.
