I have a Lenovo laptop (I know big mistake). Anyways he DVD player worked fine until I tried to uninstall Lenovo power dvd, so that I could use different software. However it will not play DVDs through any program but Lenovo for some reason, once I realised that I tried reinstalling Lenovo power did, but now it won't as it says my device isn't Lenovo?! What should I do

Hi,
First of all, you could have simply installed a new program then changed what program was utilized when you inserted a DVD.

Windows does not natively come with the codecs to decode DVD video.

*Try installing THIS (the "Standard" version):
https://www.codecguide.com/download_k-lite_codec_pack_standard.htm

Then assign the program that comes with it to autoplay DVD's when inserted (WMPC-HC).

other:
- it installs codecs that can make other programs, including Windows Media Player function.

- you can manually start a DVD from the video folder. File name is "VIDEO_TS.ifo"

- where did you get the Lenovo software from? Can you download it from the laptop site?

- changing defaults (can be tricky)...

- some people use VLC, but I prefer KLite Standard. I play ALL of my video from it.

- *For any file type you can right-click and say "OPEN WITH" -> "choose another app" then choose the program you want to use whenever you open that file type (wording slightly varies by version of Windows)
