Hi,

I am looking to purchase an ultrabook, as university classes in my first year start to kick off. I have considered several different laptops through my research over the past few months, but I think it all comes down to the Dell XPS 13 and the Asus Zenbook UX306. I will be taking Engineering, so I expect to do programming, CAD etc. I'm also into DIY which sometimes may require a decent amount of power as well.
Its worth mentioning that I have a desktop at home to do the heavy lifting when needed. That said, I can't always use my desktop, since I will be away from home a considerable portion of the time. So I would like a decent amount of power on the go.

I welcome any suggestions, if any of you think there are any better laptops out there for my purposes at a similar price level.
I want to try keep things portable (13" screen), light, and decent battery life. I don't necessarily need all-day battery life (although it is nice to have), just enough to keep me away from the plug for at least 5 hours at the minimum.

Here are the specs:

Dell XPS 13

-Screen: 13.3" FHD 1920x1080 IPS non-touch
-Processor: Intel i5-6200u
-Graphics: Intel HD520
-RAM: 8gb
-Storage: 256gb NVMe SSD
-Battery: 56whr 9-10 hours practical use

Asus ux306

-Screen: 13.3" FHD 1920x1080 IPS non-touch
-Processor: Intel i7-6500u
-Graphics: Intel HD520
-RAM: 8gb
-Storage: 512gb Sata based
-Battery: 57 whr 6-7 hours practical

Both are the SAME price ($1,300 Canadian). Except maybe I can get the ux306 $100 cheaper if I can find the same sale that happened a week ago.

I like the idea of 512gb of storage vs 256gb, but it's not a deal breaker for either laptop, since I think I can manage. Note that the 512gb SSD is Sata, and the 256 one is NVMe.

I also read that the i7-6500u is not a significant boost over the i5-6200u. Instead, intel is ripping people off with the extra $100.

Also, I wanted to mention that I will likely NOT upgrade my laptop within the next 3 years (Unless if I sell, in which case the one that will have the better resale value in the future would be a better option)

If you have any laptop recommendations, PLEASE tell me.

For the expenditure I'd go the Asus, should keep you happier longer, with the better CPU, and additional storage. Also I prefer Asus over Dell, last couple Dell's I worked with wasn't too happy with
