Hi there!

I want to play music through my TV using my phone or laptop. I have a Jack RCA Adapter Cable - 3.5 mm plug goes into my phone and the red and white RCA plugs go into their respective places on the TV. The TV doesn't pick up anything...I cannot pic AV as an option using the SOURCE button. I tested the cable on other devices and it works so there must be something wrong with the TV settings or codecs or something. Any help will be much appreciated.

Solution
A nice pairs of SONOS bluetooth speakers will do the trick nicely and you don't need to watch a TV screen which constantly telling you "no video signal."
are you 100% positive that the rca plugs on the tv are inputs not outputs? read the manual to be completely sure.

if its an output only you will have no luck.

if its definitely an input then it should show up in the menu for input devices and as long as you have the phone outputting audio (playing) you should get a signal.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply! I couldn't find anything in the manual about in or outputs..went through it twice. Anyway, here is a picture of the back of my tv. From the bottom up we have: audio L and R, Pr and Pb (no idea what those are) and the green one is Y/video. Hope that the picture helps

I said WHY NOT? to this.

Then I realize maybe your TV is TOO SMART, it expects a video signal on that connection otherwise it won't switch to it. In which case, oooops.

Why do you want to listen on the under-powered TV speakers anyway?

Well they are more powerful than my phone and laptop. I just don't want to put out additional speakers. My place isn't really fitted in a way I can hide the cables and I have a dog so can't have them hanging around... Thanks for your help anyway. If there is another way to connect my phone to the TV please let me know.

PS: My laptop is old and does not have a HDMI output...Otherwise I wouldn't bother with a RCA cable.
