This year the internet policy changed at our school. We are now required to sign in our personal laptops and phones (only two devices allowed per student) with:

Our name
Our Computer's Name
Out Computer's Mac Addresses

The original intent of this was be sure nobody who lives around the school could obtain access to the school's wifi. There's even a system in place if the laptops are never signed up they will be kicked off the network two times a week.

However, this has given them access to spy on each student individually. I fundamentally disagree with this and have a plan to go around the system.

First I need to buy a cheap laptop that has windows 10 and wifi. With the Windows 10 anniversary update I create a hotspot

I sign that laptop up for the school's wifi policy.

I then use my real laptop and phone with the wifi setup on the laptop.

What I need help understanding is what the cheapest laptop I can get is.

My best suggestion is to buy a chromebook as these are good for normal usage and are generally secure. But I will advise the same thing that rgd1101 says, only do what is allowed during school hours. This is just for security purposes. They will not track everything that you have done if you have done nothing wrong. Its only when something gets flagged that students start to get tracked.

They will for the original computer.

The extension will make it it's own wifi network, they won't be able to track individual.

not unless you plan to open up to everyone. but you might be breaking the school rule if you do that.
So my advice is don't do anything on the internet that you can't do in front of other people.
