Hi,

I'm interested in purchasing a laptop to use for office applications and engineering/math software. I'm trying to decide which of the two options below are best. I don't want to spend more than $800. I've supplied links below.

1) The first option is to get an ASUS F555LA-AB31 w/ Core i3-5010U, 4GB, 500GB, 15.6in Full HD

I plan to add 8GB RAM (G.SKILL 8GB PC3-12800 DDR3 SODIMM) and replace the 500GB HDD with 250GB SSD (Samsung 850 EVO Series Solid State Drive, 250GB).

The total cost comes to $660.

2) The second option is to get an ASUS VivoBook X556UQ-DB51-CA w/ Core i5-6200u, 8GB, 1TB, 15.6in Full HD, GT940MX

The cost is $800.

I'm leaning towards the first option because of the SSD. However the second laptop has a better CPU and GPU. Which of these should I go for? I'm open to other suggestions but keep in mind that I live in Canada and plan to purchase from Canadian outlets.

Solution
For long term use I'd go the second option, the SSD will give a boost when booting and opening apps, but very little gain when actually working and the better CPU/GPU combo will keep you happier longer ;)
