I have a HP Laptop here that has been sitting in a bag for about a year now. Nobody has switched it on during this time and it was working perfectly before.

Now when you power it up the fans start immediately and the hard drive spins but the screen remains completely blank. Shortly after the laptop turns off again. I can't get it to do anything.

If you haven't had any luck yet, do this: remove the battery and the charger cord. Press and hold the power on button for about 15 seconds. Then replace the battery and plug in the charger cord and attempt to power on. If you get your display back (or even if you do not) this sounds like your GPU is going on the fritz. To test this, attempt to plug an external monitor in to the VGA jack on your laptop. If it works, every time, then your problem lies in the display screen of your laptop, or the cable that connects it to the laptop motherboard.
