Am trying to connect a old Philips 634/051 in to a Samsung smart TVs

A
Your DVD has composite video (yellow) + analog audio output (Red & white) with RCA connections. Your TV should have this input. On some TVs the component video is shared for composite video. You would have to set the TV for this in the menu. Check the TV manual
If you don't have any inputs other than HDMI then it make more sense to get a cheap Bluray DVD player than buy an adapter for the old one.
