My laptop's fan makes a loud sound when barely touched

I believe this started when my laptop fell about 3 feet from my desk to my carpet. I have to have my laptop half off the desk for the fan to cool correctly, so that was the reason that it fell. Anyways, at the start if the laptop started making the sound I could sleep it and then turn it back on and the sound would go away. It would only start making the sound if I lightly tapped it on the left side of the laptop near the fan. However, it's getting worse and now almost is always making the sound. It is strange because it does not sound like the fan revving up or just running at a high speed but is like something is unbalanced. It's a massive pain to open it up (thanks HP). Any idea what the problem could be and what I could do to help fix it?

It sounds like something got knocked a bit loose, which may have added to your problem with overheating.

Unfortunately I know of no way to fix any of it without opening it up. I would not be surprised if the thermal paste needs replacing and possibly the fan now too.

So you have the option to do the repair/replacement yourself, or take it to a local tech/repair shop and have them do it for you.
