Thermal paste all over cpu

I just opened up my laptop as it was over heating. I found the thermal paste pretty much as is in the pictures.this is after I cleaned the surface with arcticlean.

My question is, should I clean around the sides and remove more thermal paste?I just don't think I can without risking damaging a part.

Not sure if this thermal paste around the sides is causing the over heating?appreciate some advice.

Be very careful removing any more thermal paste around those SMD's around the CPU or GPU. There was clearly way too much on in the first place.

It won't be causing overheating.

Watch one of the tube video's on applying thermal paste before doing it ... no more than the equivalent of a grain of rice in paste for these.

Use a soft artist brush and Isopropyl Alcohol at 95% (not rubbing alcohol)

TIM = thermal interface material ... or thermal paste.
HSF = Heatsink and fan assembly ... or cooler.
IHS = Integrated heat spreader ... the tin lid on some CPU's that sit on the silicon slice and serve as an intermediary heat spreader to contact the HSF, but also protect the cpu and little SMD's around it ... like a blankey.

I hope some of these terms with explanations help.

Most of us get carried away with abbreviations ... like working for an oil and gas company!!
