Computer is wasting mobile data?

Home internet decided to pack in this week so I have been forced to use my mobile hotspot on my computer to play online etc. But I noticed that it was eating through my internet. I checked to see if there was something downloading but I couldn't see anything obvious.
This has happened before and it ended up being malware but nothing is picking up anything strange (Malwarebytes and Windows Defender).
I honestly have no idea what I'm looking for and would appreciate any advise on this. :)

So you connected your computer to your phone, to use the phone's data connection on your computer to play online, and you want to know why it was using data on your phone? This is like saying "I am eating my dinner, but I keep noticing that it's getting smaller and smaller as I eat it".

Of course your phone data will be getting used, this is exactly what sharing your mobile connection with a hotspot will do. If you go online on the computer it will use data on the phone plan. And even if you don't actively go online, checking for and downloading updates will use up data.

Yah but no online game would use the mobile data at the rate it's being wasted. I use my phone to play online all the time but it only started wasting data recently. And that's the problem, I cant see anything updating or downloading.
