I'm planning to buy a new set of headphones for my laptop and walkman but I'm currently torn between these two: the HyperX Cloud II and Audio-Technica ATH-M40x. I am a heavy music listener and I know that the HyperX Cloud II headphones are geared toward gaming but I do quite a bit of gaming myself and I heard that they sound pretty good for music too. I want to buy a set of headphones where I could get the best performance for both music and gaming for under $100.00

Solution
Depends on what you want them for in terms of where you will use them. If the use place is noisy, M40x should be a decent bet (you can sometimes find the M50x for <$100 too), but you should also look into other audiophile sets like the MDR-7506

If it's for home use, you can't go wrong with the HD558, it's usually <$100 , but the open design won't be great in noisy environments
