Okay, I have a baby little MSI gt740 on a Asrock z97 extreme6 motherboard that is in my primary pc. It is hooked via the gt740 hdmi to a sony DTR SN1010 7.1 receiver which i use all channels on. MY question is i cannot figure out how to setup my PC to output a Dolby ProLogic bitstream or the like because the windows sound manger refuses to allow more than 2 channels at 24 bits. Any help is appreciated for reference the receiver does play back 7.1 from an xbox one.

Solution
prologic is faked surround from a lesser channel source. you would not want to use that.

you would want PCM if possible. i would uninstall your video and audio drivers then reinstall the newest ones. it could be a bug. from there connect up via hdmi like you always do from pc -> receiver. make sure you are not doing pc->tv->receiver using arc as it will not work (pc sees tv as stereo device only). change your default device to either hdmi out or receiver (whichever shows up in list) and set to 5.1/7.1 then test.

Thanks for the information. The receiver was hooked in the pc > receiver > tv setup. However arc was selected in its settings. Turning it off fixed the initial solution, but I have one more question. In the speaker configuration menu there is no option for atmos or front high speakers, is there any way to utilize them in the pc or is that a lost cause at the moment?

Thanks for the help. Also now I cannot get the receiver to play stereo signals across all channels in its multi stereo mode. Does pcm allow for that? I know my receiver is decoding the pcm signal because it has an indicator for it.
