Hi,

My laptop intermittantly hangs when sleeping. This doesn't happen when I put it to sleep, or everytime it sleeps but more occasionally when I have left the laptop and shut the lid or something.

I usually find the laptop with the screen blank, but the power light blue (instead of actually asleep when it is red) is on. I think the problem is going into sleep rather than out as I know I if I find the laptop with the orange/red sleep light on it will boot normally.

The disc drive still works in this state and the fan is on, but the mous and keyboard don't work and the computer appears frozen. Weirdly, I was changing some of the setting for power and I set it to hibernate in certain and circumstances, so sometimes when I turn it off and on again in from this frozen state I will find my desktop as I left it as if it had hibernated properly!

I have an ACER aspire. It has become a problem since I installed an SSD and an extra 4gb of RAM. I have a vague memory of it happening a few times before that but not as much as now as it is pretty much daily. This install was fine everything works, the only thing I didn't do was partition the SSD for recovery like some laptops do pre-installed. I wokr mostly cloud based anyway so it was an issue for me. The memory and SSD were from crucial with their compatability test.

I ran a memory test and have had no problems and I set the SSD not to switch off in sleep (because I hear this is a possible cause) but no help. I'm running Windows 10

Does anyone have any idea?! Help would be much appreciated!

Hi,

It's not overclocked but it could be in raid? Does this mean the SSD has a recovery partition? This was done automatically by my laptop there's a recovery partition and EFI system partition? Is this what raid means?

Thanks for your help

Whoa! Exact same thing is happening to my Acer. (Aspire E1-572G)
I bought a 480gig Crucial BX200 and 4x2gig Crucial RAM.
Works beautifully, but putting the laptop to sleep keeps it running.
The blue lights indicating that the computer is on and that the HD is in use, stay on.

I initially tried turning of hibernate entirely through powercfg in CMD. But this had no effect.
I then tried turning it on and using only hibernate for lid close, sleep button and start--->sleep (basically everything)
None of this works and now I've realised that even shutting down can randomly result in this happening.
I have tested it plugged in and not. No effect.
I tried with battery near full and near empty. No effect.
I tried having full RAM usage with lots of stuff running and then absolutely nothing running. No effect.
Things I haven't tried:
Testing this in safe mode. Will try that soon.
Testing without wifi on. Better try that as well
One thing I have noticed though, but I can't really measure it or such, is that this seems to happen more frequently if I've been using the laptop for long periods of time. That is a few hours as opposed to a matter of minutes. I am trying to test this as well...

I have no memory of this happening when I was on my old HDD.
This could be an issue with my battery though, cause it's dying and is all over the place, refusing to give me low battery warnings and randomly jumping from 20% left to 5% and shutting down. But I'm not too sure how that could be affecting this....
