HP Pavillion DV2000 CMOS checksum error

If I leave the aforementioned lptop off mains power and the battery runs down, I get the error message that there was a CMOS checksum error. If I press F1, then the laptop boots up but time/date is reset.

On desktops, I'd guess that this means the CMOS battery needs replacing.

All my Googling has not brought up that the laptop has a CMOS battery, although I'd hazard a guess it must have one.

Is that the issue?

I can also not find a service manual for the laptop. Specific model number is DV2416us.

Any help running down a good error cause and a service manual will be appreciated. I'd hate to have to open this laptop to replace the CMOS battery.

Solution

I spent 3 minutes Googling and found this:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01035657

Go to section 5.2. "Disassembly Sequence Chart"

Looks to like you have to remove one small access panel
(hard drive cover, page 122 of the pdf, I believe) to get
to the CMOS/RTC battery.

yes, except I've never seen a color picture of it, nor that particular splash screen. It was delivered here without a hard drive and I've been battling to figure out if it is worth repairing.

Well, thanks a bunch. That's the one. Actually, I've been looking at that damn battery all along. It's actually right next to the missing hard drive.

Your help has been invaluable. Much appreciated.

You're very welcome. I don't get to help often!!
