HP Pavilion dm4 core i5 ------I can only use it in safe mode with or without networking. If started normally it hangs and can't even be turned off except by holding button down. I am not sure what to do. I did msconfig and hid all microsoft services and hit disable the rest No change. I uninstalled a couple programs I didn't recognize (after researching). Don't know what else to do. I bought this off of ebay and it ran flawlessly for over a year but I do not have the win 7 disk so can't really re format unless I buy an operating system right? Any suggestions on what to try or do? thanks

Well you in safe mode of windows.
I`m surprised it has not occurred to you to use windows backup and restore.

Click on the start bar in windows while in safe mode.

In the search bar type: Restore

Select restore your computer to an earlier time marking.
A new window will open.

Click on open system restore tab.
In the new window that opens you will see a tick box at the bottom of the window.
Show more restore points.

Tick the check box.

A list of all restore points since windows was first installed on the laptop will display.
Go through the restore points.
Hi light one, and click next.

Restore windows to that point in time, via the date, month and year of the restore file selected.

Then let system restore run.
The laptop will reset its self and after completion should load windows 7 again in normal windows loading mode.

The warning is this, any program installed after the selected restore point is chosen will no longer be installed in windows.
But all personal files such as pictures or documents, user files ect should be retained Marking.

Other than a restore point you may also have a point named backup.
This file or checkpoint is often a snapshot of when windows 7 for example was installed on the laptop by the vendor, or maker of the laptop brand.

It will simply restore windows back to the day as if it was just bought and turned on for the very first time.
Factory setup.

If it exists the choice is yours on selecting a restore point made or a backup.

It helps to try to remember when the laptop refused to boot or load into windows in normal mode, instead of freezing or halting during the loading of windows OS.

And choosing a restore point made on that time, date, month, and year.

if my laptop is hanging/freezing and a chkdsk scan shows a terrible amount of many many bad sectors I am pretty safe in assuming I need to replace the HHD?
