New malware tabs opening on browsers on their own; how do I get rid of these?

This is happening on my daughters laptop. I thought it was just Chrome but when I tried other browsers, new tabs just started opening on their own with ads I did not ask for. I tried these things: ran Microsoft Malicious Software removal, ran Kasperky Antivirus, cleared all history and browser date from Chrome, removed Chrome. Tried to install Avast Antivirus but it would not install due to some conflict with her Windows 10 version. I searched for any LuckyTab programs (saw this in another question) but there was nothing. Task Manager did not show anything strange that I did not recognize yet the hijacking of browsers is still happening. Can anyone help please? I am almost at the point where I will have to reset her computer to factory original.

Solution
did u try it in safe mode with networking or normal mode???
also if u have a restore point before this started, try using the system restore...

Is that the Microsoft program? If not, then no. I am afraid to download anything without knowing firsthand that it is safe as I know many of these viruses camouflage themselves this way. One of the popups that keeps coming up is Reimaging and I have no idea what that is. Plus a Windows 10 repair page, again nothing I ever asked for.

seems like ur machine is infected if the popups are automatic...
this is what u shd do...
restart the machine in "safe mode with networking"
go to https://ninite.com/
u can download most programs from this site minus the bloatwares...
download malwarebytes as it is the best program to remove malwares
run it and restart the system...

I did try a system restore back to January and it was still there. I did not try it in safe mode as I cannot remember how to trigger that. What button should I hit when starting up to get it into that? I will try that next. I had to take a break from it for a few days as it was driving me bonkers!

@KAtB (sorry for a late response just stumbled upon this thread. if the problem already solved hope some tips will help for future)

Usually the new tabs/ popup ads get themselves installed in the computer itself.

1. Closely look at the ads name .Go to control pannel > uninstall a program under program head (make sure its View by Category SELECTED if u use windows 10). Try to find the unwanted ads name and uninstall it. usually works for me

2. If the above method does not work. simply try googling that particular ad with key words. HOW TO REMOVE say reimaging, you will find a lot of options, Go for those which have positive reviews.

3. Always...... A. update windows frequently (assuming ur windows is genuine). B. Use official Microsoft security essentials (OFFICIAL Microsoft Virus remover, i have windows installed on this pc since 2006 and i never have to reinstall it and it never crashed) C. Install Browser Extensions with good reviews for blocking ads and popups. D. Try to avoid using usb's, use dropbox (or have separate usb s for public and personal use)

4. Factory restore is a good option/suggestion by hellfire3 provided if u have a restore point created. No need to panic, its just a security measure provided by Microsoft and dose not delete any of ur data rather resets ur pc to previous perfect working condition. You can go through the whole process by any Youtube video (may vary with windows version).

Hope this helps
