I have a laptop with an Intel Core i5 6200U, with Intel HD 520 graphics, and so I am running GPU-Z just so I can monitor its clock-speed.
Acer has their custom Intel drivers on my laptop so I do not know if that's whats causing a problem.
Intel says the graphics should run at 300MHz to 1050MHz. But actually now that I look at it for my specific processor, it says maximum "dynamic" frequency is 1GHz instead of 1.05GHz for the i7, (which is weird because I have seen it run at 1050MHz.
When I monitor it's clock-speed, during regular web-browsing it runs at 300MHz. I have rarely seen it run at 450MHz. When I am running a more intensive program, it runs at 950MHz. Rarely have I seen it run at 1000MHz and 1050MHz.
So at first I thought it was not running at 1000MHz or 1050MHz all the time because of thermal-throttling. I checked my graphics temperatures and it would show 70 degrees Celsius at 950MHz while running a intensive program.
I installed an Opolar vacuum fan for my laptop and now when I do a test, it will run the intensive program at 59 degrees Celsius, but still run at 950MHz.
I am wondering why it is not running at 1000MHz or 1050MHz, which is Intel's clock-speed limit for it, when it is below 60 degrees Celsius (and the two CPU cores are only about 40% utilized at 45-55 degrees Celsius)?
Also, why am I seeing such weird numbers for the MHz count anyway? I have never seen it run in between 450MHz and 950MHz? I slightly increase the intensity of a program and it will only jump from two states, but never in between.
Also sometimes it runs at 1000MHz when there is a 2% GPU load? Is the clock-speed even based on the load?
