Looking for a gaming laptop with GTX 980m, & 16GB RAM?

A GTX 980m would be overkill for CSGO and probably Elsword as well since free MMORPG generally do not have demanding graphics requirement so that the those games can appeal to a potentially large player base that do not have a gaming laptop or desktop.

While I have not seen any benchmarks for the GTX 980m and CSGO, the GTX 780m (2 generations old) can run that game on ultra settings at 1080p and gives an average of 190 FPS. Of course the actual displayed FPS is limited by the laptop's or the monitor. The vast majority of laptops have LCD screens with only 60Hz refresh rates which means the screen cannot display more than 60 FPS. A handful of gaming laptops might have a 120Hz screen which allows for up to 120 FPS to be displayed on the screen, but I do not know of any laptop models off hand. The GTX 980m would be capable of easily pushing in excess of 200 FPS in CSGO using ultra settings at 1080p, but most of the performance is lost due to the refresh rate of the LCD screen.

A laptop with a GTX 960m should be a bit less expensive and should be capable of push 150 FPS in CSGO with ultra settings and 1080p should be more than enough.


Regarding the CPU, most games do not take advantage of more than 2 cores and they are not very dependent on the CPU meaning past a certain clockspeed the performance increase is negligible. CSGO is not particular demanding on the CPU and Elsword is probably in the same boat. Though, it's nice to have a laptop with a powerful quad core CPU in case you play games that can take advantage of more than 2 cores.
