I'm trying to find the best malware prevention. Most best malware prevention resultsd are based on anti-virus results. Which is fine, but they are generally after the fact and don't prevent them from getting on your PC.

I need something that prevents malware from getting on the PC in the first place.

Any suggestions or articles?

Thanks for any help

Depends on how hard core you want to be about prevention. For most people a good AV with an on demand scanner works well.

Without a firewall
For Free, look at Avria or Bitdefender for the AV and something like Malewarebytes free for an on-demand anti malware suite.
For paid, look at Avira, Bitdefender or Kapersky for the AV and a paid real time Malwarebytes subscription.

Firewall/Security suites
For free, look Comodo or Zonealarm free.
For paid, look at the security suites offered by BitDefender or Kaspersky. These two also have trial versions of the software so you can see what you like. Having run through them for testing recently, I will say start with the lowest level of protection offered and then move up. I found that when I tried testing the highest level and going down, the trial software automatically started me with the higher level package I had just uninstalled.

Some good testing sites for your own research

Best Malware protection is use your brain, followed by having an AV solution (Windows Defender in my opinion is OK and it´s free), Adblock and no Script installed.

I probably should have said I'm looking for other people. My Aunt's retirement complex always call me for help and I was looking for them. They are of course Seniors and not computer savvy,

I already have them on Avast, and others have Norton's as Comcast provides it free with their service. Other just use Windows Defender with MSE but they have the most issues. But they all get issues. I guess you just can't protect them from themselves.

I was just hoping for some magic bullet. I already use Firefox with adblock plus. I haven't used No Script in a long time as it was too complicated to setup. Maybe it has gotten more user friendly now?

If you find No Script not very convenient, Ghostery could be an option for you. It also blocks trackers etc. Just disable flash or set to "ask for permission" and train the people. Most pron sites by now support HTML5. ;)

Just kidding, it´s hard for me as a person who is working with IT on hard- and software base every day to keep up with all the treads that roam around like clickbait in mail, faked profiles on dating websites, etc. So I can imagine how difficult his is for "older" people or folks simply not used to using it since growing up.

Maybe an option could be to have a removable and write protected boot device with an OS like some Linux with Broser and basic stuff needed, but nothing more. By doing so you could ensure that nobody is able to alter anything on the OS. No problem with viruses, keyloggers, toolbars or whatever. Just tell them to restart before they do something like finance transactions or anything private and they have a "fresh" OS after every re-boot. Of course, this is no solution for storing any personal data, bookmarks or sort of things...

Oh yeah, I forgot I install Ghostery as well.

Seniors can't learn new stuff very well. Some were upgraded to win10 and they are they are in total chaos mode.

They have access to an iMac in the shared game room. I try to get them to learn and they have staff that help them, but none have a clue and are completely lost.

One just upgraded from XP to win10. Their IT guy said he couldn't work on it any more and recommended to upgrade her system. Her son bought a Dell AIO (a tablet stuffed into the monitor) and it runs like crap and it's be over a week of me constantly down there and they just can't remember everything. I want to install XP, but not sure if it's possible. Probably no driver support for XP. I know XP is unsupported, but it should be fine if I can still find security software compatible for XP.
