Hi guys,

I'm looking for some debate between those 2 small and powerful 14', tests in link here MSI, Razer, and here is the dilemma !

Here out of the price (+/- 500$)which is not the decisive criteria i'm particularly interested in the durability (of the material but also of the technology) if i'm buying one of those it's at least to keep it +3 years so it have to still be relevant on perf. Other point on the GPU, here it's GTX970M which is already 1year old and i start to hear about the next gen Pascal GPU, so is it wise to wait ? (again, because yes every year there is something new coming so finally you never buy anything).

thanks in advance for your views,
cheers.

If gaming is your priority and you don't mind only having a 500gig ssd then the razor is the best choice. Its cooling is much better. If on the other hand you plan on getting a lot of games like I do well 7 then the msi wins. Just to give you an idea, I have the following games installed:

Far cry primal
AC Syndicate
Fallout 4
Gta 5
Injustice gods among us
Dark souls 3
Witcher 3

All of these take up around 300 gigs
As to how long it will take for the next gen gpus to come out in laptops I don't know. But my suggestion is that the gtx 970m is a very capable gpu as I have it in my laptop the 6 gig variant not the 3 and it is very good. All games on my list except AC and gta 5 I think take up less than 3 gigs. The 2 I mentioned takes up...
What do you plan to do with these laptops? If is ti pro apps, then both machines can do it. If it is gaming then you should be able to play the games as long as you don't mind a lot of noise. Msi's are known for this and they can get got. I don't know about razor.

For the longevity, I would say around 3 - 4 years due to its small construction, this assumes that you don't upgrade the internals or clean the fan. If you do any of those, then the lifespan should be more. Just make sure that the fans are not blocked and the ambient temps are not too high when doing intensive tasks.

The razer only has an ssd, but i will assume that you will be able to upgrade it. You must have at least a 1tb hdd to store games, since game file sizes are growing.
The msi only has 3gb of vram. I dont own a 970m, so i wont know if 3gb is enough or not, but there have been people with the desktop 970 running oout of the 3.5gb vram, so if you plan to play at higher resolutions, use higher aa settings etc, it might be safer to get the blade.

So the laptop is only for gaming? nothing else? Do you move around often, or will your laptop sit on your desk the whole day? because if you wont use it elsewhere, it'll be better to just get a desktop. if space is an issue, there are many itx cases that takes a small space. but are still powerful.

and if you can wait, nvidia should be launching its gtx1070m (or the full gtx1070) for laptops soon, and if you dont mind a price increase, msi will certainly launch an upgrade as soon as possible, razer could take longer though. asus rog laptops are also pretty good.

Hi,
Space is definitely a constraint and i can't afford a dedicated place to have a desktop or a 17".
(I was having a ROG 15" but i consider this more like a "transportable").

Your point is particularly relevant about the coming upgrade on the gtx1070m but how long it will take to have it in the MSI (as it will take at least 1year on the razer) ?
