I have a Dell Inspiron i7559 Signature Edition. It comes with a 4k display. My issue is that Windows animations have a distinctive amount of lag to them (or low FPS if that's the case). This is especially noticeable when using Task View. By lowering the resolution this lag is eliminated, but I was wondering if there were a way to get it to run without lag at the laptop's native resolution of 4k?

It probably has 2 video cards NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M with 4GB graphics memory, Intel HD Graphics 530 when in just windows it will use intel and you will see lag at 4k there should be a utility on that laptop force it to use the gtx960m.

Yeah i have the same 7559 too. 4k is terrible in some windows animation, maximizing, task view, scrolling are choppy. But weirdly some animation still run smoothly 60fps.. i thought it was the screen problem, but game still run smoothly,.. maybe windows 10 bug? BUT FYI, in other laptop like asus and hp which has the exactly same 4k display, EVEN without NVIDIA GTX, they run all the animation fcking smoothly...i just curious what all those things happen wrong with this 7559..

Yes general laptops will use the lowest power option(which would be your Intel chip set). So go into the Nvidia control panel from there you can force the laptop to use the 960m for any application.

Even I am having the same issue. How much RAM does your laptop have ? I am having 8 GB.. Does upgrading to 16 GB solves this issue ?
I have a Dell XPS 15 9550 (i7 6700HQ, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD) and I'm experiencing the exact same issue. I actually ended up RMA'ing the laptop and getting a replacement that had the same issue. Gaming and benchmarks work fine, but somehow every day scrolling and animations (especially in google chrome) are terrible.
An easy way to see if you have this problem is to go into the C:\Windows\System32, set the view to "Extra Large Icons", maximize the window, then scroll around. If it isn't buttery smooth then something is wrong in my opinion. I've looked everywhere and can only occasionally find people with the same issues, but no solutions. Downscaling everything into 1080p makes animations smooth system-wide but that isn't an acceptable solution.
If anyone can help or at least confirm that they don't have the same issues with the same (or similar) laptop then I can rest knowing I just have bad luck with lemons, return this one, and get on with my life. Thanks.
I have a Dell xps15 9550 (uhd screen) and I have a few problems. Apart from the screen tearing, I also experience a lot of lag in scrolling while browsing. Yesterday I tried disabling the indexing in windows and it actually worked!

This actually works! I am not sure I understand HOW it works though. I'll be looking into the matter. Thanks though!
EDIT: There still is some amount of lag present, however it is much less than before. This can be observed by changing the resolution to 1920x1080 (or any lower resolution) and scrolling in a browser. The difference in smoothness of the scrolling is noticeable.

I have same problem with Asus vivobook pro 15.6 "4K / UHD IPS, Intel Core i7-7700HQ, Nvdia 1050, so laggy when resizing or moving some window, on bad solution was change resoltion to 2048x1152 it work fine and smooth, without any lags, but loose qualty of picture. And still no solution for that?

Hi, , I have the same problem with the same exact hardware configuration, did you find any solution in the meantime?
Something that is helping me is to use the scale/layout size setting at 225% and not 250% as recommended by windows. Also, going to Nvidia Control Panel and putting all settings to use Nvidia GTX card plus maximun performance when possible. Also setting performance instead of quality.
