Can this laptop connect to two external monitors?

I just recently acquired two Acer r240hy 24'' monitors and want to know if this laptop is capable of connecting to two external displays. The laptop itself only has one HDMI port. I think I may have found a solution but it might be weird. I thought maybe I could use a male hdmi to female displayport adapter and then use this http:// Displayport to HDMI converter. And then connect my two screens via hdmi to it. The laptop I am looking at is the Dell Inspiron 15 7000 series http://. Do you think this is possible? The reason I want to use this displayport to hdmi converter is because I plan on doing basic gaming/3d modeling (dota/overwatch/basic solidworks assemblies) on one screen and having the internet open on the other. And I heard that the USB docking stations don't handle gaming or 3d modeling that well. If this won't work, is there another solution to this?

Mirroring does not really cause any additional video processing so you will not take a performance hit when playing games using the monitor instead of the screen.

However, you take a little bit of a performance hit when the second monitor is connected. That is because GTX 960m must not only render the game, but whatever is being displayed on the 2nd monitor. One way to less that performance it could be to set the 2nd monitor's resolution to 1600x900. Lower resolution means less processing power to render what is to be displayed.

Watching a video on the 2nd monitor will cause some performance loss since since the GTX 960m must also decode the video so that you will be able to watch.


No, that will not work. The actual displayport itself has some additional hardware connected to the port itself to allow it output more than one video signal. A HDMI to Displayport adapter is simply an adapter. Nothing more.

If you want to connect two displays to a laptop you will basically need to buy a laptop with a Displayport and HDMI port. Or you can purchase a USB 3.0 to Displayport adapter such as the one in the link below.

The monitor connected to the USB 3.0 / Displayport adapter should be used for displaying whatever internet browser you want to use. USB 3.0 can be a bottleneck for video signals because it's bandwidth a bit narrow in comparison to how much bandwidth a video signal can use.

But as long as I run the games on the monitor connected via hdmi and only internet browsing on the one via usb, I shouldnt have any issues?
