Forgive me but I have no idea what I'm doing here not familiar with this.. I bought my fiancé (6pc) Logitech 5.1 surround sound speakers. We wanted to hook them up to our tv and the description said it hooks up to a tv so I went with it. Apparently newer TVs don't have a spot to plug in the 3.5mm Jack and that's how these speakers get hooked up. We have an LG smart tv

If your TV has a headphone out that will work and the TV will control the volume. Otherwise you need a DAC like this one
http://www.parts-express.com/parts-express-dac-digital-to-analog-converter-%2851-compatible%29--180-999
to convert the optical audio out of the TV to analog. You will also need a toslink optical audio cable and a stereo cable with 2 RCA plugs at the DAC end and a stereo mini plug at the speaker end. This is a fixed output so the volume will have to be controlled on the speakers.
