Hello,
I want to know if i have a H6400 Samsung TV, could i play DTS and DOLBY surround audio files while connected to a z506 system ( or any standard 5.1 system )?

If so, how can i do it?

I noticed the system doesn't have the decoding properties to work with DTS, but the TV has it. If i plug with an optical cable would it work?

And what happens if i try to play DTS HD format while neither the speakers or the TV can decode it?

Best regards,
Matei

When you use an optical cable the processing is done by the device on the output not the TV so if the speakers won't decode DTS or DTS HD it won't work. The TV however may not pass the surround mode. You would get either nothing or loud pink noise sound, If you try it keep the volume on the speakers all the way down and bring it up just a bit.
