A large number of faults have developed very quickly (over the course of about 3 days) with my Toshiba laptop.

Operating System: Windows 8.1 64-bit (6.3, Build 9600) (9600.winblue_gdr.140305-1710)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: TOSHIBA
System Model: SATELLITE S50D-A
BIOS: 1.40

The first issue is that the laptop keyboard will usually fail within 5 minutes of start-up, becoming completely unresponsive. Sometimes the touch-pad has become unresponsive as well.

Occasionally I will get the battery error symbol. The Toshiba health monitor will then tell me that the health of the battery is poor. This happens occasionally, not every boot. Most of the time the battery works fine, it charges normally and the laptop can function without the charger.

Usually about 30 minutes (although it does vary) after booting the laptop will slow down and then BSOD, it will then tell me it is gathering error information, will reach 100% and then freezes. I've left it about 30 minutes in this state before. A list of the BSODs can be found here.

Sometimes on start-up, usually after having shut it down recently, the monitor will not display anything, not even back-lit. This happens with nearly every restart too.

Sometimes the laptop also loads very slowly, with the desktop background loading, then the taskbar and finally the desktop icons.

I have tried updating windows to the latest version, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling then updating the keyboard and the battery drivers. I have also now tried a system restore to 10 days before these issues began. None of this has helped. I have also run the Toshiba PC Diagnostic Tool and it tells me that the hardware is okay. Hardware and Sound under the control panel also lists everything as working correctly.

I'm not really expecting a fix, although one would be nice :p, I was hoping somebody could tell me what has likely failed or could help me diagnose the problems.

First thing I'd try in your case is replace the hard-drive and install Windows clean on that. Slow loading happens a lot with a failing hard drive. Maybe bad RAM also, that also can cause crashes. Try running with one RAM stick if you have more than one, test them one at a time for a bit. If you only have one RAM stick, getting a new one to test is a good idea. If new Windows setup on a new drive and new RAM did not fix things, try replacing the keyboard.
