Hello!

I have a Gateway laptop that I bought a few years ago, but due to some problems I had with win8 I had to downgrade it to win7.

My internal mic used to work just fine but it just suddenly stopped working. I thought it was a problem with my laptop so I bought a headset and I was able to use it for like 2 weeks, however, it stopped working as well. I've tested my headset on different computers and it works fine.
I've managed to make it work a few times, if I check for driver updates some times it would work after that. But I don't know if it has anything to do with that or if it works just by chance. It's happened only a few times.

Funny thing is, if I open the skype options window, and the audio settings tab, I can see the green bar moving when I talk. However, if I open the sound options on my laptop and check the recording tab, my mic is not giving any signs that it is working. Same if I connect my headset. Then, if I attempt to call, the mic won't work.

I've tried several things, checked the drivers and it still wont work. Do you guys have any idea what could be the problem? or if I would be able to fix it at all?

Hi,

Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help.
- Go to Device Manager and uninstall the Sound card driver.
- Once uninstalled, download and install the latest driver from Gateway website.
- Reboot your laptop once the latest driver has been installed.
- After the reboot do make sure to set the correct Playback devices and mic.
- Right click on the speaker icon and select Playback Devices, if you see your headphone listed right click on it and select Set Defaults.
- Do the same with the microphone, click on Recording tab then select the default mic right click on it and select Set Defaults.
- Click Apply then OK and see if it will work or not.
- If all these will not work I would suggest reinstalling Windows as the last option..
