Hi. I recently purchased a refurbished Dell 7559 from ebay for 720 USD. It has an i7-6700HQ, GTX 960m, 1TB SSHD, FHD Display, 8gb single channel memory. I also added a 512GB Samsung M.2 and made it the primary partition.

I play Battlefield 4 and my temps are really high. I play 64 player multiplayer maps. The CPU is at 80c with a temp of 90c-95c and GPU at 100% 70c. I barley get 60fps on medium settings. This is due to throttling right?

I think the cooling system of the 7559 is not designed that well because the pipes for the GPU and CPU are sitting right next to each other. So if one heats up it will cause the other to heat up as well.

UPDATE: I have opened up the laptop and replaced the thermal paste. I also found no dust in either fan or fins.

Hi,

Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help.
- Once you've completely cleaned the inside of your laptop and apply new thermal paste on the CPU and GPU do a clean install of the graphics card driver as well.
- Go to Device Manager and uninstall the Nvidia graphics driver.
- Next is to open Programs and Features then uninstall anything related to Nvidia.
- Once done, download and install the latest driver.
- Here's the link: nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx
- Reboot the laptop once the latest driver has been installed and set Nvidia as the default GPU.
- Once done do test it again and see if the same problem will persist or not.
- And lastly, if all these will not work I would suggest using a cooling pad that should help a lot as well in cooling it down.

Was it the thermal past that needed to be changed? How did you do it? After a year or so, I'm getting temps around 150 F while playing the Witcher 3 and I don't want to play too long on a computer that hot.

it's most likely due to the bad stock thermal paste that dell uses (i swear to god it's basically cement) I have had overheating experiences with this computer myself. When playing gta5 my computer will just turn off assumably due to overheating.

In order to remove the heatsync and replace the thermal paste you basically have to take the entire computer apart, so unless you're in a really bad situation like me, I recommend not replacing the thermal paste.
