My friend sent me a file through skype and then a few minutes later my computer green-screened and then shut down. Upon startup AVAST antivirus started a scan. ive been using avast for awhile but this has never happened before. Can i get feedback on my monitor going SOLID green then restarting. i hope to god its not any of my hardware.

Thanks in advance!!

try using a scanner like avast or malwarebytes to see if thy pick up or want to delete anything
then use some program like norton or kaspersky and try to fix it
to me this sounds like a virus over a hardware issue

honestly not enough info to tell. if you have another monitor around (or HDTV) hook it up to your system and see if you get the same results. At this point it could be a virus, a bad video card, a bad cable, a bad PSU, CPU, motherboard, ETC. we need more to trouble shoot this. If another monitor gives you the same issue, swap your dvi/hdmi (or what ever cable you use) for a new one. If still the same issue, try another video card if possible...or even try a different PC with the monitor you have. Rule things out as it were.

First, I would ask your friend what the hell he sent you. I would then, delete the file once Avast is done scanning. If Avast doesn't show you anything run Malwarebytes. If you want to be extra careful make / run Kaspersky boot disk to check everything. With it happening right when you opened it, I'm going to guess it's probably software related, but it doesn't necessarily have to be a virus, it could be some other type of malware.
