PS3 and Laptop conflict with 2 x 1 HDMI switcher into TV

My Panasonic TV only has 2 HDMI inputs. One is obviously used from my Direct TV box but I also would like to feed my PS3 and my laptop (which has HDMI out on it) into the second HDMI port. I purchased a remote controlled HDMI 2 x 1 switcher, but it would cause my Laptop to hose up. I gave up, but then wanted to use the PS3 again recently and purchased a manual switcher. Same issue, really messes up my laptop, even when I have the PS3 powered off. Once I remove the PS3 cable, laptop runs fine into TV with no problem. I have seen switcher with "HDCP bypass". Naïve as I am, not sure what this does/doesn't do, but is it possibly the solution to my problem? Or, any other suggestions? I don't care about a remote switcher, I just don't like the pain of unplugging/plugging the HDMI cables into the switcher. TIA.

I didn't think of that. My laptop is rather old, and not a huge loss if it is completely hosed by sharing with PS3 and didn't want to hose up Direct TV receiver with PS3, but that might well be the answer. Thanks, I'll try that and cross my fingers.
