So currently I have an decent desktop with I use to play games but I'm out a lot and at school I need a laptop that I can carry around with and take notes on. A question about my current desktop, it's a mediocre desktop I bought because my old one broke and I needed something to work on. Should I just buy or build a gaming desktop and buy a portable laptop or just get a gaming laptop?

1. What is your budget?
<$1300 CAD
2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
15 or 17 inch
3. What screen resolution do you want?
1080 x 1920
4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
portable
5. How much battery life do you need?
long enough to take notes during lectures and if i want to bring on a plane so nothing under 4 hours casual browsing (while gaming can be minimum 3 hours if possible)
6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
Yes
League of Legnds High, CS:GO Medium to High, Garry's Mod Medium to High. GTA V playable on 1080 x 1920 low is fine
7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)
just surfing the web and doing some work
8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?
a decent amount for games and work
9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.
newegg.ca or anything that ships to Canada
10. How long do you want to keep your laptop?
couple years
11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?
DVD ROM
12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.
ASUS from personal experience is good. Don't really like Acer as I had one which broke in 5 months.
13. What country do you live in?
Canada
14. Please tell us any additional information if needed.
I want don't need a gaming laptop unless there is one that meets my needs. Would like a light laptop which doesn't overheat too much that can run some games. Has to be under $1300 CAD or like $1000 USD

Get Dell XPS 13. It will be best for school and portable enough to carry back and forth between your home and school. Yes, it can run...

For a 1000$ usd the best you can get in a laptop is a gtx960m, but you can upgrade your current desktop for probably around 600$ that will blow your a 960m out of the water, and get a portable weaker laptop. You would stil be able to play games like dota or indie stuff on the laptop.
What are your current desktop specs?

I think the cheapest 970m laptop is around 1300$ which is about as good as a desktop 960, and it might not be as portable and quiet. You could keep some part of that pc to keep the cost down. You can still get a decent everyday laptop that for around 500$ you just cant play demanding games on it. At the end of the day you need to ask yourself how much do you really need a gaming laptop, and how much you will actually play on the go.

I think Dell Inspiron i7559-763BLK will be best for you. It has quad core 6th gen i5 processor , 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD , NVIDIA GeForce 960M 4GB Graphics , Full HD Display. Price - $799.99 USD.
It weighs 5.67 lbs and even battery life is good enough to match your needs.
Here's the link to it - http://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-i7559-763BLK-Full-HD-GeForce/dp/B015PYYDMQ
Don't see weight on Amazon. It is mentioned wrong there. I have cross checked on Dell's website and it says 5.67 lbs.

I've decided I don't need a really good gaming laptop. A good portable laptop that can run League of Legends on High and CS:GO on medium is all I need.
