I am trying to figure out what happened to my Windows 7 hard drive (WD 2TB, probably around 5 years old). Night before last, my hard drive was working fine. My daughter was playing Minecraft on it. The next morning, my husband tried to boot it up and it wouldn't. When I got home, I booted it up using a Linux Mint live flash drive and there's nothing on the drive, it's lost at least 1T of space and now has two smaller partitions on it, combined space approximately 900GB. The last person to use it was a 6 year old, so I really doubt she did anything to it. I've had hard drives crash, before, and that simply rendered the hard drive unusable. Could this have anything to do with the Windows 10 installation stuff that Microsoft downloaded to my computer? I don't really think it did, but I'm trying to cover all bases, here.

before reloading windows, is there anything you want to save like pictures & any other data except for install programs because you can use a data recovery program like the free version of recuva tho there is also the paid version of that.
