Hello, I have an relatively inexpensive HDTV and would love to deep six the cable box as it is rarely used since the kids moved out and is now in a spare/guest bedroom.. Problem is that this TV has several digital inputs including several hdmi but the only coax connection is for an RF signal and cannot find digital channels during a scan. Seems odd since all of my others seem to have a digital coax input but that's what it has. I can't seem to find an adapter for digital coax to hdmi (at least not reasonable). Does anyone know of one? I'm guessing It may just be easier and cheaper to get rid of this TV and get another one with a DTV coax input?

Solution
Sounds like you are connecting the cable provider RF cable to the tuner input on the TV. If there is no setting for QAM in the TV menu then you won't be able to get any cable channels even if there are any that are not encrypted. You could buy a QAM tuner that would have an HDMI output but there may not be any channels for it to receiver if they are all encrypted.

Thanks for the reply. There is no option for doing this in the menu.

I'll agree with you, there seems to be no digital tuner in this model. I do have 2 other spares in bedrooms that have a separate coax input for digital allowing me to get the basic cable channels without the use of a box so I assumed that this one would have that capability as well. This works fine for basic TV if the kids come home or we have guests. This television for some odd reason, does not have that feature. I guess it only has an RF tuner and not a digital. I do have a box, but I'd like to return it to the cable company rather than pay 8 bucks a month for one that rarely gets used. At this point it's likely less hassle to just get another low end tv for that room when the time comes.
