Earlier yesterday my boyfriend's laptop suddenly started running any game he tries to play at very low FPS (less than 10). He's mostly tried World of Warcraft and League of Legends but other games have given the same result as well. It's not a drop or spike either, it's consistently running that low, no matter what he changes the graphics settings to (low and ultra run the same). Prior he was running both games plus many more with no issues in terms of FPS and graphic settings in game.
Some solutions he's tried are updating the GTX 960M (he got an error trying to install though, I believe), rolling back the driver, restarting the laptop, and setting the GTX 960M as the preferred GPU in both the NVIDIA Control Panel and for each individual game he's tried.
He briefly got WoW and League working after setting the preferred GPU but after alt-tabbing from League he got an error saying the Intel GPU had stopped working and the game went back to running terribly.
He is extremely upset and has already given up (he's had awful experiences with computers in the past) so I'm hoping I can find some more suggestions and hopefully a solution for him here.
