GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M + Intel HD Graphics 530
CPU: Intel Core i7-6700HQ @ 2.60GHz
Model: ASUS GL552VW
OS: Windows 10 Home
16GB RAM

Earlier yesterday my boyfriend's laptop suddenly started running any game he tries to play at very low FPS (less than 10). He's mostly tried World of Warcraft and League of Legends but other games have given the same result as well. It's not a drop or spike either, it's consistently running that low, no matter what he changes the graphics settings to (low and ultra run the same). Prior he was running both games plus many more with no issues in terms of FPS and graphic settings in game.

Some solutions he's tried are updating the GTX 960M (he got an error trying to install though, I believe), rolling back the driver, restarting the laptop, and setting the GTX 960M as the preferred GPU in both the NVIDIA Control Panel and for each individual game he's tried.

He briefly got WoW and League working after setting the preferred GPU but after alt-tabbing from League he got an error saying the Intel GPU had stopped working and the game went back to running terribly.

He is extremely upset and has already given up (he's had awful experiences with computers in the past) so I'm hoping I can find some more suggestions and hopefully a solution for him here.

Hi there,

No need to worry I am sure we can sort it out (tell your bf we have his back)

So if you hit an error while instaling a new GPU driver........ its a pretty good indication something is wrong there, assuming you have G Force Experience (i think its called that) Can you let it scan the drive and install what ever updates it wants too........ or at least let it try.

Next can you open your task manager and have a look at the load on your cpu and how much ram is being used (there could be some malware in the background that is taking all the juice, hence why you are getting bad performance any where else)

Could you also install some program that can monitor the TEMP's of things....... I recommend...
Hi,

Please do try doing a clean install of the graphics card driver that may do the trick.
- Go to Device Manager and uninstall the Nvidia graphics driver.
- Next is to open Programs and Features then uninstall anything related to Nvidia.
- Once done, download and install the latest driver.
- Here's the link: nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx
- Reboot the laptop once the latest driver has been installed.
- After the reboot, do also make sure that Nvidia is set as the default GPU.
- Here's how: http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2615/~/how-do-i-customize-optimus-profiles-and-settings%3F

(screenshots of all the above would be helpful)

Assuming none of these give any results....... Can you run some stress tests on the GPU and CPU separately, this should help us determine if its just a problem with the GPU (I would expect it to crash your laptop during the test if its not so well)

Let me know how you get on,
Matt.
