Hello,

I have a Lenovo 80LX running Windows 8.1. Everything has been working fine until today when the screen shut off while I was editing a document. I figured the screen had died, so I connected the laptop to my TV via HDMI and everything came up fine on the TV, so I was able to save my work. Just for kicks, I went to the display options and selected to duplicate my screen on the laptop and the TV, and the laptop screen came back to life. I tried extending the screen across both monitors and this worked as well. However, when I selected Primary screen only, the TV went blank (as expected), but the laptop screen went (and stayed) blank as well. Both screen came back on about 15 seconds later (because I didn't confirm that I wanted to keep the new settings) and I've been running it with two screens on since.

Googling for an answer has been difficult because it mostly points me to people who's laptop screens are broken and are looking to just use a second screen. Maybe I didn't search right, but I'm hoping someone here can help.

So, to sum up, my laptop screen only works when a second screen is plugged in and duplicating or extending my desktop.

Thank you,
Tehko

Hi,

Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help but I'm leaning towards a GPU problem but please do still try these steps.
- First is to do a hard reboot, remove the battery and unplug the AC adapter then press and hold the power button for 20 seconds then try booting it up again without the external monitor connected.
- If it will still not work do a clean install of the graphics card driver.
- Go to Device Manager and uninstall the Intel graphics driver.
- Next is to open Programs and Features the uninstall anything related to Intel graphics.
- Once done, download and install the latest driver.
- Here's the link: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/
- Reboot the laptop once the latest driver has been installed then test it again.
- If the same problem will persist I would suggest reinstalling Windows.
