Two of my Scientific Atlanta DVR/receivers can get 1080i while the third can only get 720p. The Vizio is 1080p capable. How do I get the receiver to put out 1080i?

Solution
You can change the output of your cable boxes in the menu system (but not the actual cable channel itself). You should be able to find the manual for your model box on the Scientific Atlanta or cable providers website.
However 1080 interlaced is not superior to 720 progressive. Especially on sports with fast motion 720p is better. On cable and over the air TV you can get 1080i (most channels) or 720p. 1080i requires less bandwidth so it was adopted by most channels when HD started. ABC that was sports oriented at the time opted for 720p.
Some channels on satellite (pay per view mostly) are available in 1080p.
