Hello people!

So I currently have a dead ASUS N56VM laptop.

Here's how it happend: A couple of months ago, I was tinkering in the laptop BIOS where I changed some USB settings to solve some OS issues. When I saved the changes and restarted the laptop, I got a black screen. The PC would actually turn on (I could hear the fans and the HDD/ODD activity. But the screen itself was not giving any display).

I searched the internet and found other people having the same issues. They recommended trying a CMOS reset. But I didn't wanna risk breaking my laptop while disassembling it so I took it to a local electronics store. They told me that they'll try a CMOS reset to get the computer to boot again.
However apparentely according to them the CMOS reset didn't help. Theyalso told me that they tried other trics but with no positive outcome. They told me that the mobo was simply dead and that it needed replacing.

When I got home with the still dead laptop, I tried to turn it on to see if anything was different. This time. The computer wouldn't start at all (no fans, no hdd activity and no screen). It was more dead than before the local store got their hands on it). I got the feeling that they broke the laptop even further.

So I decided to take it apart to see if I could spot something weird but it ended up going nowhere so I reassembled the laptop again and left it to collect dust.

Now months later, I decided to take another peek at the laptop, but this time I noticed something weird. The main power cable that connected the motherboard with the laptop charger socket was damaged. There was a hole in the cable bundle and it had those small metal parts exposed.

Now I don't know if I somehow broke it or if the electronics store screwed up. But I was wondering if this damaged cable could explain why the laptop was even more dead when I got it back from the local electronics store?

Solution
Sounds like a screw was put thru the cable but its been months and you have no way to really know if it was you or them at this point. Nothing you can prove at least.
