No audio in right ear of new set of headphones *only when plugged into stereo system*

I currently have an old, bulky stereo system hooked up to my computer through the audio jack. I recently bought Audiotechnica M50x headphones and when I plug them into the headphone jack of the stereo system itself, there is only audio in the left ear. They work perfectly fine if they're plugged directly into any other source, and other headphones work perfectly fine if theyre plugged into the stereo system. What's going on? Is there a solution to this?

No I can't elaborate just cuz.
Not all audio jacks are wired the same, mostly on older equipment before standardizations. Apple was good at messin stuff like that as with others with propitiatory connectors. Some simple thing is out of sync though.
