I have just checked out the specs of it and I have heard that I should be looking for 16gb memory rather than 8gb. Also there isnonly 4mb is cache rather than 6mb like with a lot laptops I have checked. Why would you recommend it?

What do u think of alienware 15r2 for this kind of work. The xps15 seems good but I heard that it has alot of problem. What do u also think of the Asus Zenbooks? Would a macbook be a good option? Their prices seem high for their specs

You can click the Lenovo p40 you want and add more ram, also you can upgrade the processor, the cache doesnt really matter at all in tasks, what matters is the clock speed of the processor. The p40 is made for the tasks you are looking to achieve.

Heres my take on macbooks, they run hot, have poor upgrade paths, are pricey, and they have a small number of supporting software, they are good but they are not the best, anything they can do a windows pc will do better.

What do you think of Lenovo Y700 and the Zenbooks? What shops can you configure the P40's in?
Would it be powerful enough if I would want to do rendering as well though. The Y700 and the P40

So, heres what i think about lenovos y series, they run super hot and have the worst hinges ever, i owned one for a few days hinges broke so i refunded it. I would never buy one again. As far as zenbooks they are alright but have very lack luster screens which you need a IPS panel really for what your doing. Colors being accurate are very important and I can tell you the y series has some issues with color accuracy.

You cant configure the P40 in a shop, you have to buy it with what you want , well i take that back you can replace the harddrive ram, etc, but i would get the upgraded CPU. The P40 is made for people doing graphics work, rendering, and art, laptops with the yoga style hinges are a lot easier to use when drawing and what not, plus they also work as normal laptops, they really are a jack of all trades. Plus durable

It isnt built for gaming but would handle lighter games albeit not on 1080p ultra because its not built for that but it should handle dota, team fortress, and CSGO, just fine

Another option which seems pretty good is the P50 however it doesn't have a screen like the yoga which you can tilt around

Yeah, which makes it more of a normal unit, i mean thats fine for most users but if you want to do art you can draw on the p40 with a special pen thats included, and that makes it alone worth the money for someone like you. Its a lot more portable, and about the creative person. Get the P50 only if you dont mind not having the hinges.

As Im looking to be an architect in the future it would be good for me to practice such skills. On the lenovo website it says that the recommended graphic card for architecture is quadro 4000m but it is very expensive. Would the p50 be better for 3d rendering as it has a quad core cpu rather than 2 core like P40.

How would you say the the P40 or P50 work with programs like AutoDesk Maya?

I had done more digging and the MSI workstations have good specs as well. For example the WS60, however, I can't really find it anywhere in shops. Also it doesn't have a touch screen so I would have to buy like a wacom intuos pro, extra to it.

I would stay away from msi, but the p50 will last a long time the m4000 is a very fast chip and can play games as well if it comes to it. If you spend the money get the i7 or xeon in the p50. The problem with msi is that you get what you pay for and cannot upgrade till warranty goes bad.

It has the m4000m only if you get the upper end models. I think the top 2 if I remember right have like 6 graphics chips you can get.

M2000M is still good enough, its a 4gb gddr5 chip will work for anything including games
