USB Microphone static noise

When I record myself in Audacity and other recording tools I can hear static noise coming from my microphone even when microphone is muted using mute button on headset. The strength of static noise depends on microphones volume.

- I use Asus Xonar U7
- Tried plugging different 3.5 jack microphones into xonar u7 and the noise is always the same
- Grounding is not an issue because I tried running my laptop on battery without charger and on charger with battery removed, problem still persists.
- Detaching every USB device except soundcard did not help
- Moving mic and soundcard around the room did not help

I'm out of the ideas, any solution proposal is appreciated. Also, maybe if I connect xonar u7 to my laptop through usb charging hub it will help because noise comes from power supply?

EDIT: Here is link of how that sounds - http://vocaroo.com/i/s1gP9TqKgegK

Hi, I listened to the recording and it sounds like excess power being provided to the microphone.

Is your recording very soft when you record or is it normal but you can hear the static in the background?

I put my microphone on max volume (100) just for the purpose of showing how it sounds. However, for my usual use I reduce volume (to 90) a bit so my voice is not too loud, but static noise is still an issue but quieter. Also, if I put mic volume to somewhere around 30 this noise disappears but I can barely hear myself.

This does sound like the port is outputting too much power for the microphone. Does the microphone also plug into USB or just 3.5mm jack?

3.5mm jack goes to the external sound card asus xonar u7 which then goes to the usb of my laptop.

However, if I put my 3.5 mm mic jack directly into laptop the issue is still the same, I can hear background hiss even when mic is muted, but hiss sounds different.

I don't really know what it would be but i would suggest to record it with the vol low (like 50-60 maybe) and take the BG noise out of that file in post processing then make the file louder if need be...

Also, USB mics ALWAYS have more static than other mics. Just not that much...

Hello Eekster,
Have you solved your problem?
I've got exactly the same one with CAD USB U39.

It produces some kind of static noise at -48db. Even if it’s turned off (with the selector on the microphone).
I’ve tried different USB-sockets on different computers with different USB cords. I’ve tried laptop connected to the socket and on battery. All other recording devices are disabled.
