How detect video camera digital sensor chipset via software

Hi friends,
is it possible to detect (without open it) the digital sensor chipset characteristics, for example via usb? From Linux too.
In my situation I would like to detect the PANASONIC HC-X1000 digital sensor chipset, because I suspect that the machine has gone into production with different kinds of sensor.

That 's like asking if you can detect what engine a car has from the tire marks. Sure there's a lot you can know, but you cannot detect what specific sensor chipset there is unless the maker states it or you pull apart the camera.

Now, if you wanted to find out if an image is taken with a hc-x1000 vs a nikon d5500, that's easy, just get any software that reads exif and check the model that way

Unless the manufacturer adds the metadata into your recording file (many high end cameras do, this one will likely be able to) it won't happen. Definitely no chipset data, but it might include the model. You don't need a hex editor though, just open it in your video editing application
