M lookin for a second laptop for everyday use.
Things I'll be doing on this are

  • Browse the internet using Firefox.
    Play movies (Local/ Youtube)
    Video calls on Skype
Some document editing in MS Word
    Create powerpoint presentations.
OLD GAMES like MS Age Of Empires/ Age Of Mythology/ Diablo 2 etc

This laptop comes with Ubuntu, but I'll install Windows 7 Pro on it (checked dell.com, Windows drivers are available.)

Will this laptop fulfill my requirements? If not, what will this laptop fail in? I can sacrifice the games if needed, but the other requirements are non-negotiable! (i have another HP Envy with GTX 850M, but it's a bit weird to turn it on for these old games- will intel HD graphics for 5th gen celeron run these?)

HERE is the link to the laptop.

Solution
The CPU should be okay for most of what you want to do. I do not use Skype, but I cannot imagine that it would be very demanding. Even laptops with weaker CPU than the Celeron 3205u have webcams, I do have not come across any complaints regarding Skype's performance. The games you listed should be pretty easy to run since they are relatively old... as long as the games are not poorly optimized.

The Celeron 3205U runs at 1.5GHz and it's integrated Intel HD (Broadwell) graphics core is ranked between the Intel HD 4200 and Intel HD 4000 graphics core by Notebookcheck.net. The Intel HD 4000 is actually the more powerful of those two.

Like I said, it should be good...

Dudeman, will I have problems using this computer for the tasks I mentioned? Is i3 the minimum required for these? I already have an i7/GTX850M laptop (HP Envy K204TX), this will be my second laptop for everyday use, m trying to keep the cost as low as possible.

Thanks for reading my question both of you, really appreciated.

Like I said, it should be good enough to play the games you want, I did attempt to to play Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (released in May 2002) using only the Intel HD 4400 graphics core in the i5-4200u and the game ran at about 30 FPS or less @ 1600x900 resolution on my laptop. Then again Morrowind was not well optimized. Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (released in Nov 2011) runs a lot better with the Intel HD 4400.
