Hi I've been looking at gaming laptops but am unsure on which would be the best buy.

There are 3 identical laptops each with a i7-6700 processor, 16gb RAM but with a 970m/980m and a 980 desktop graphics card.

The price difference between the 970m and 980 desktop is about £500 with the 980m somewhere in between and I was wondering if it was worth paying the extra money for the 980 desktop?

Surely all three would run every game that is currently out at max settings and every laptop would need replacing in 3-5 years?

Thanks

Well, it depends on what your expectations are and if the extra £500 is worth getting the desktop GTX 980 GPU variant. You can click on the following link for more info about the desktop GTX 980 GPU variant and there are also game benchmarks provided if you scroll down. You can click on "Compare" to see how it does against other GPUs.

I did not bother to check every single game at 1080p with ultra settings, but the desktop GTX 980 variant actually seems to perform better than a stock speed desktop GTX 980. Compared to the GTX 980m, the desktop GTX 980 variant performs between 20% - 30% better depending on the game.

Get my rig

6700HQ processor

950m 4GB

8gb ddr3.

I been nailing most of the new games on maxed out settings except a few including GTA V and assassin's creed syndicate which bullies my rig a lot....GTA V I can't play on maxed out settings coz It will make it unplayable, only setting I can get it to go to 35FPS is all set on high not very high and ultra. ACS, I need to turn everything to minimum to play it 32FPS... Really a punishing game. BUT When I OC'd It, I could play GTA V on HALF WAY on maxed out with 31 FPS and ACS, could rise settings to medium and get 25-30FPS. I bought it for 650 and It's a HP Envy Notebook. Witcher 3 Wild Hunt officially RIPS my rig, can't even play it on minimum settings.. just simply kills it.. But not all games are like those 3.. BO3 I can play it maxed out and etc.

6700HQ is a really nice CPU. Or you could drop 300-400$ more to get a rig similar but with 16gb ddr3 and equipped with a 970m which is a lot better than me rig
