I have an Alienware laptop with Windows 10 recently installed and I have a Sony TV. When I connect my HDMI chord the picture transfers (and is beautiful) but the sound only plays through my laptop speakers. I have tried lots of fixes that I have read in other threads with no luck. I will however be willing to try it all again. I do not know if it was working before I installed Windows 10 as I cannot remember if I ever used it for this purpose before. I believe I have but cannot remember for sure. Any ides would be much appreciated

Hi,

Here are some troubleshooting steps that may help.
- Right click on the speaker icon and select Recording Devices.
- Once open and you see your TV listed, right click on it then click Set Default. Click Apply and OK then test it again.
- If it will still not work, do uninstall/reinstall the Sound card driver first.
- Go to Device Manager and uninstall the Sound driver.
- Reboot the laptop once uninstalled and it should reinstall the driver automatically.
- Do make sure the the TV is set as the default recording device again and see if it will work or not.
- If it will still not work, do also a clean install of the graphics driver.
- Go to Device Manager and uninstall the graphics driver under Display Adapters.
- Next is to open Programs and Features then uninstall anything related to the graphics card.
- Once done, download and install the latest driver.
- Reboot the laptop once the driver has been installed then test it again after.

So when I go under my record options or playback options it does not list my TV on the list of devices. So I cannot select it as the default. Also, when I go under my device manager, the only thing that shows is a Generic PnP. It doesn't list the Sony.
